The taxpayers can log in using their Aadhar number and an OTP instead of their permanent account number as in the old portal. The captcha code has been replaced with a "secure access message" in order to improve the security of the site. The taxpayer can set a security message that should be answered every time before logging in. This is done in order to verify that the person logging into your account is you or someone with your consent.
If you do not have mobile connectivity for the one-time password, you may find another option such as:
- Static password. This is helpful in places with almost negligible or zero connectivity. The static password that is generated in prior can be used. The password should not have been expired or consumed.
- If you possess an Electronic Verification Code (EVC), through Bank Account EVC.
- Demat Account EVC. This can be used when the e-filing Vault Higher Security option is enabled.
- Digital Signature Certificate. DSC should be active and valid. emSigner Utility provides paves way for a hassle-free, faster, and protected signing of documents. This utility should be running on your system. Then, the DSC USB token should be plugged in. It is mandatory that the DSC USB token must be of a class 2 or class 3 certificate. It is issued with a validity period of not more than two years, depending on the mode of transactions.

- Logging in using ITD mobile app with the help of push notification.
- Logging in using ITD mobile app with the help of T-OTP.
Steps to follow to log into New e-filing Income Tax Portal
The method I (Using PAN)- Step 1: Visit the New e-filing Portal and click the To login option that you find on its homepage.
- Step 2: Enter your permanent account number in the box with "Enter your User ID" and press continue.
- Step 3: Enter your secure access message and confirm it. Now enter your password and continue.
- Step 4: First, you will receive a six-digit OTP via voice call or a text message.
- Step 5: You will now once again receive a six-digit OTP on your registered mobile number or email ID. Press the "Login" option.
If the process is successful, you will be directed to the e-Filing Dashboard.
Method II (Using Aadhar card)- Step 1: Go to the Income Tax e-Filing log-in portal.
- Step 2: Enter your Aadhar card number in the box with "Enter your User ID" and press continue.
- Step 3: You will receive a six-digit OTP on the registered mobile number that is linked with your Aadhar card. If you are using Aadhar OTP as a higher security option, you must log in on the Higher Security Options page with your respective user ID and password.
- Select 4: On the verification page, click "I agree to validate my Aadhar Details". Click on the "Generate Aadhar OTP" option.
- Step 5: Enter the OTP received and click "Login". You will be redirected to the e-filing dashboard.
- Step 1: Visit the e-Filing portal homepage.
- Step 2: Enter your PAN in the "Enter your User ID" column and click continue.
- Step 3: Confirm your secure access message, enter your password, and press "Continue".
- Step 4: On the verification page that appears, choose the "Try another method" option.
- Step 5: Select static password. Enter your static password and click "Login". You will be taken to the e-Filing dashboard.
- Step 1: Go to the e-Filing portal homepage and press login.
- Step 2: Enter your PAN on the "Enter your User ID" column.
- Step 3: Confirm your secure access message. After entering your password, press continue.
- Step 4: Choose between Bank Account EVC and Demat Account EVC and press continue.
- Step 5: Click on "Generate EVC" if you do not have an EVC. You will receive an EVC on the mobile number registered with your bank/Demat account. If you possess an EVC, enter the same and press "Login". You will be taken to the e-Filing dashboard.
- Step 1: Visit the e-Filing portal home page and click "Login".
- Step 2: Enter your PAN and press "Continue".
- Step 3: Your secure access message appears. Confirm it. Now enter your password and click "Continue".
- Step 4: Select the DSC option and press "Continue". Opt between New DSC or Registered DSC as per your choice and press "Continue".
- Step 5: Select the option "I have downloaded and installed emSigner utility" and press "Continue".
- Step 6: A "Data Sign" page appears. Select the "Provider and Certificate" option. Enter your respective Provider Password and click "Sign"
- Step 7: Once the steps are validated, you will be redirected to the e-Filing dashboard.
- Step 1: Go to the e-Filing portal homepage and press "Login".
- Step 2: Select "Mobile App" under "Other ways to access your account".
- Step 3 (a): A "Login with mobile app" page appears and a field to scan the QR code is displayed.
3(b): In order to use the push notification method, click on "Try another way to login" and continue.
3(c): In order to use the time-based OTP method, click on "Try another way to login". You will receive a code that is valid for 30 seconds on your ITD mobile app. - Step 4: Open your ITD mobile app and scan the QR code displayed there. Press the "Scan" option and then "Login".
- Step 5: Once the steps are validated successfully, you will be taken to the e-Filing dashboard.
